2012 New York City Marathon : ウィキペディア英語版 | 2012 New York City Marathon The 2012 New York City Marathon was an event scheduled for Sunday, November 4, 2012.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Race-Week Schedule )〕 Despite the presence of Hurricane Sandy, facilitators planned to conduct the event.〔 〕 ==Cancellation== On Friday, November 2, 2012, the contest was canceled with Mayor Bloomberg explaining that: "While holding the race would not require diverting resources from the recovery effort, it is clear that it has become the source of controversy and division... We would not want a cloud to hang over the race or its participants, and so we have decided to cancel it." On October 30, Bloomberg stated that the event would happen, which began a debate on holding the race while many citizens were still without power, public transportation, and other basic needs. People who supported conducting the race stated that the event would provide an economic upswing to the area, while opponents concluded that resources are better utilized elsewhere. Some participants helped with cleanup, as a result of "Super Storm Sandy" while others ran an informal "Shadow Marathon" in Central Park. Controversy surrounding cancelling the Marathon, the timing of the declaration and the results of the verdict, including criticism of Mary Wittenberg, happened long after the contest was originally scheduled to happen. People who registered to run the 2012 marathon were given three choice: a refund; guaranteed entry to the New York City Marathon in 2013, 2014 or 2015; or guaranteed entry to the NYC Half 2013.
